Calhoun County Florida Wasps and Flies

CALHOUN COUNTY, FLORIDA HYMENOPTERA & DIPTERA

Hymenoptera (wasps) and Diptera (flies) are photographed only in Calhoun County, Florida. Insects are listed on the INDEX PAGE alphabetically by Family, then genus, and then species.

Common names for many insects do not exist. BUGGUIDE.NET is highly recommended by me as an authoritative source for insect information and identification. Try it. True experts lurk. And on Facebook, join the BUGGUIDE GROUP. Also excellent.

I have placed a subjective “confidence” percentage of the identification accuracy of each species photographed. My authority is Bugguide.net. There are many people associated with Bugguide, novice to world class expert. No one person maintains this website. It is a group effort. Some information can be wrong, including my own.

In those cases where I state an insect is Common, Occasional, or Infrequent, I mean those designations to apply to the local area. In many cases this is simply my property.

My photography equipment is a Nikon D5200 camera with an AF-S Micro Nikkor 85mm 1.35G ED lens. I take almost all pictures with flash. Camera settings are with either Manual or M/A selected, VR on, and manual dialed in. Also flash at 1/500 sec., F18, and ISO at 200.  In addition, I have an L.W. Scientific MiniVid Microscope Digital Camera that will attach to my  L.W. Scientific 1X, 2X microscope with USB connection to my computer for images on the order of less than 1 mm to about 5 mm.

The Map Datum for latitudes and longitudes is WGS 1984.

No insects have been intentionally harmed for the photographs on this website.  I occasionally “calm” an insect in the refrigerator to cut down intransigence.

My thanks to Mr. Rob Gelhardt of Tallahasse for his terrific web development work and his deep empathy with my limited understanding.  Also to Bill and Marcia Boothe for serious instruction on camera operation.

Thanks for visiting. You are visitor number:  working on it…
